Community Service at HA Jack Primary

As a St John’s and St Mary’s parent, I organised a Community Service experience at the HA Jack Primary School in Waverly for our April holidays. It was an amazing experience for 25 boys and girls from our schools.

The first afternoons were a bit chaotic, with lots of improvisation and laughter involved. Our High School children made us very proud in their motivation, leadership skills and beautiful, unflagging spirit to teach and interact with the Grade 1 to7 children from HA Jack. The mid-afternoon delicious snack time was a daily highlight and a very welcome tummy filler.

As a member of CAS (Community Assisting Schools) I would like to offer your sons and daughters the opportunity to engage in a Community Service experience with a difference.

HA Jack Primary in Waverly educates 750 boys and girls from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Though sports fields and classrooms are available, there is no afternoon care yet available for the 180 children waiting for their transports. Approximately 40% of the children have no parents and regular sport, structured play and educational stimulation would support the daily academics taught at the school.

Please discuss this interactive Community Service opportunity with your sons and daughters and let them choose their afternoon activities. Let them do what they do best and what they enjoy, so they can pass on their knowledge and passion to the little HA Jack kids during the month of August. I’m also very open to activity suggestions. I’ll do the organising of the program, but our very capable High School students will run with the activities and I’m looking for some leaders and supervisors to ensure everybody is engaged in the right way with the Prep kids.

Should you be interested, please fill in the “Information Form” below and return it to me before the end of June via email with your child’s personal details, preferred activities and committed afternoons. Some contribution towards the afternoon snacks would be greatly appreciated by all the children.

I look forward to another unforgettable interactive Community Service experience with your sons and daughters at HA Jack.

Kindest regards
